Danielle’s Digest: Week of 7/31/16

[ssba]

This week on Danielle's Digest you'll get a behind the scenes look of a recent photoshoot,  my new favorite kind of dinners, and how I sneak a little extra veggies into my kids dinner!

Sheet an suppers are my new favorite kind of meal right now. They are so easy! I took a bunch of veggies from our garden and tossed them in ghee and avocado oil and some wild salmon from Costco and threw them on a tray with a bunch of dried herbs, sea salt, and pepper and baked it on 400 for about 17 minutes.

I know there's all sorts of technology-forward music listening options out there, but my friend Hillary Scott released her brand new album Love Remains and it's so much more fun running to Target to get the physical copy! If you've heard her song “Thy Will” and it's spoken to you in some way, you'll love the rest of this.

We forgot about the garden for a couple of days…Whoops! I removed the seeds from this and shred it all up, then froze it in 1 cup portions to pull out and use for my Chocolate Zucchini Muffins from my iPhone App Cookery or to mix into my Shortcut Spaghetti Meat Sauce from Meals Made Simple to add a little extra veggies to Asher's meals.

Many of you asked, so I gave you a garden tour over on snapchat! It's of course deleted now since it's been more than 24 hours, so make sure you follow me over there for moments like this. I saved it though so I'll put it on Facebook soon.

CDOut of all the toys, these drumsticks + a paint bucket are the daily favorite. He is the cutest.

Don't mind me. In this moment, I was just standing over the counter dipping leftover roasted chicken in my Spicy Almond Dressing. Best snack ever.

I'm so thrilled for this sweet and brave family. Kelsey and I bonded last year because we tragically had something in common, our babies went to heaven too soon. I've been honored to walk through a small piece of her grief with her and offer any glimmer of advice and hope I could from being shortly ahead of her in the journey.
It broke my heart when she told me they were advised to not have any more children and I was overjoyed (literally in tears when I never cry out of excitement for anyone else's pregnancy, especially so after Aila died) when she told me this news a couple of months back on a walk through Central Park. I've been praying fervently for that baby and that this day would come where the pregnancy was “safe” enough to announce to the world. I'm so happy that day has come but will continue to pray for these next 20 weeks and beyond.
The various ways to bring a baby into this world may seem unconventional to you at first and not at all what we envisioned when we planned our families, but the end result of a baby being born into a home that will love her so fiercely because they truly know loss erases all of that and makes every complicated step of the journey worth it.
If you're walking through infant loss or infertility, or know a friend or sister who is, please go read Kelsey's story. There's hope and light in the the tunnel. Notice I didn't say end of the tunnel, because I believe there is no end of the tunnel when grieving a child. I think we'll be in this tunnel until the day we get to be reunited with our babies, but life is joyful despite that.

There's nothing better than a big pot of my Shortcut Spaghetti Sauce (Meals Made Simple). Well, besides a big pot of my Granny Sarella's Sauce (from Against all Grain)! ? This is the sauce I add shredded zucchini or sometimes shredded spinach into to sneak a little extra veggies into the kids diet.

This past week we had a wonderful photoshoot! Thew next few photos are some behind the scenes of it.

It's always a joy shooting with the amazing Jennifer Skog, and this dreamy white kitchen was pretty incredible too!

I love a natural look and my beautiful hair and makeup artist Lindsay Skog always nails it!
