Danielle’s Digest: Week of 1/10/16

[ssba]

This week has gone by so fast for me! I've been in NYC going to lots of meetings, interviews, and making new memories in Uber cars… As crazy and fun as these trips always tend to be, I am so excited to be back home with my other two boys. Here's a peek into my week, what I ate on my Whole30, and some of the fun interviews I got to do while in NYC! I'm also going to start sharing some photos in the weekly digest that can't be seen anywhere else besides here, so make sure to check back every Friday!

leftover breakfast skillet

This was a delicious leftover breakfast skillet. I took some leftover garlic roasted Hannah sweet potatoes and yams and threw them in a skillet with spinach, Applegate sausage and ghee. Then cracked some Vital Farms eggs overtop once that was heated through and sprinkled on a little KiteHill ‘ricotta' for a little tang at the end.

restoration hardware sale We hit the Restoration Hardware warehouse sale in Alameda before I left. There was so much good stuff, and fun pink walls too!

travel buddyI love my little travel buddy! He makes it much more enjoyable and full of so many snuggles. He did so well on the flights. It's when they start wanting to move around that it gets a little more difficult! And for all of you who've been asking, the wrap is a Sakura Bloom!

periscopeGuess what? I'm now on Periscope! Go follow me @againstallgrain and laugh at my lack of periscope skills as I get the hang of things. I was also on the @womenshealthmag periscope showing you a couple of grain-free snacks on Thursday! For those of you who saw it, I hope you loved it and got inspired! Leave a comment below with some ideas of what you'd like to see more of on my periscope!

One of my friends on Instagram commented saying “more like boob-er”! Haha! #boobER

Busy_day__Shot_3_recipes_with__thedailymeal_that_will_be_up_on_their_site_next_week___paleo__glutenfree__againstallgrainMy trip was full of really busy days! We shot 3 recipes with The Daily Meal that will be up on their site next week so be looking out for it!

And a big thank you to Mario Batali for making paleo grits on The Chew, and my friend Daphne Oz for sneaking me her dish to eat! We gave up our seats at the tasting table thinking I wouldn't be able to enjoy any of it (and that would look pretty bad for tv, haha), but I was pleasantly surprised to hear this dish was paleo! I love when I see mainstream embrace it. It was so innovative and flavorful. The recipe for paleo grits that you were all asking about is up on The Chew's website now! Click HERE to see it. It was really good! And you can sub thin pork chops for the veal if you'd like as well. What a fun morning being a guest in the audience! And thanks to everyone who has shared their screenshots of me while they watched the episode. So fun that you picked me out of the audience. 🙂

My__whole30_nightmare___Gluten-free_treats_and_handcrafted_truffles_and_the_closest_I_can_get_it_my_nose_against_the_glass___JanuaryWhole30__fikanewyork This was my Whole30 nightmare ? Gluten-free treats and handcrafted truffles and the closest I could get was my nose against the glass haha! This whole30 hasn't been perfect, but I was able to resist these little guys. Next time I'm back in NYC…

Trying_out_Poke_Works_today._More_on_my_snapchat_ I tried out Poke Works when I was in NYC and showed you on my Snapchat! Find me on there at againstallgrain

Check out exactly what I got and what I thought about it down below!

Can_t_come_to_New_York_without_a_visit_to__hukitchen.

One of my absolute favorite things about New York is Hu Kitchen. This time I got they roasted chicken with roasted sweet potatoes and cauliflower and a side of the caramelized pineapple with cashew cream. It was amazing as usual. I just love that I can go into the restaurant and not have to ask a single thing about the menu. I usually grab a few of their paleo chocolate bars to take home but they were all out when I was there. 🙁 Hoping_he_does_as_well_on_the_way_home_as_he_did_out___virginamerica__lovesakurabloom I love babywearing for toting this guy around the airport in. It's so nice to have my hands free and not have to push a stroller. Plus, I think he's pretty happy with the situation.

spirqlizing for today

I'm teaching Today.com all about spiralizing, including my tips and tricks for some of the more tricky veggies like butternut squash and beets! I'll let you know when it's up on their site in a couple of weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!

dinner last night zucchiniMy last dinner in NYC was my Shortcut Spaghetti Sauce from Meals Made Simple (ps did you know that 6 of the 8 meals plans and grocery lists can be used for your Whole30 with just a couple of omissions?!), over zucchini sautéed in ghee.

And the following photos are all some exclusive pictures that have only been shared here on the Digest!

unnamed-1 I usually don't get smoothies from here because they don't use the best quality ingredients but I was super hungry and needed something quick so I opted for their “Amazing Greens” smoothie which is full of super greens, pumpkin seeds, peaches, lemon and bananas and I asked them to blend it with water instead of juice to avoid the added sugar. unnamed-2Ahh the beautiful New York skyline. I love these trips and am always so surprised at how fast they went when I get home. It feels like I hopped on a plane, arrived, and then hopped on another plane back! unnamed-4I had so much fun being on the Women's Health Magazine periscope! I showed viewers how to make whipped coconut cream with fresh fruit… and I added some chocolate chips and gluten-free granola for good measure too 😉unnamed-5I also showed you all how to make my Apple Sandwiches from Against all Grain! They are such a fun snack to make for yourself and especially the kids! I also showed you a little trick on how to keep the apples from getting brown and slimy… any guesses?

unnamed-6

I tried a new poke place in NYC and it was delicious, but I will say they weren't very knowledgable on what was and wasn't gluten-free. Other than that though, it was great and I loved that you could have it as a salad rather than the classic bowl over rice! I sure love fresh ahi, cucumber, macadamia nuts and avo.unnamedThis meal seems to be our families saving grace as of late. When I don't have time to cook dinner, I just grab an organic rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods, and one of their paleo sides (this time it was roasted veggies), roast some hannah sweet potatoes with garlic, some ghee, and sea salt and make a quick salad! This is the ranch dressing from Meals Made Simple.
