Danielle’s Digest: Week of 2/14/16

[ssba]

What a week! We wrapped shooting for my third book, which means I'm so close to being able to tell you more about it! I also turned 31, which feels just the same as 30 😉 So many of you have asked what I am feeding Easton now that he is about 6 months old. Paleo baby food is new to me, since I didn't have Asher eating paleo or even gluten-free, so it's been a fun learning process! Scroll down to see what his first foods were.

Snapping_the_last_day_of_shoots__Find_me_at_againstallgrainMake sure you're following me on snapchat at againstallgrain to see some behind the scenes photos! This was on the last day of our photoshoots for book 3. I was so thrilled to have worked with this fabulous team!

S_a_t_u_r_d_a_y__S_n_u_g_g_l_e_sWe are all about Saturday snuggling!

We_stay_in_for_Valentine_s._What_do_you_do_FollowWe had an awesome night staying in for Valentine's. I cooked one of my favorite things– Grilled Artichokes. What did you do? Carpet_swimmingCarpet swimming. This little guy isn't so little anymore! He just keeps growing.

Mmm_baby_food.Mmm baby food. Easton is just starting to eat solids and it has been so much fun introducing our little guy to new foods. And seeing his facial expressions is the best part! Keep scrolling to find out more about what I'm feeding him.

31_doesn_t_feel_so_bad.I was asked a couple of weeks ago if I was nervous turning 30 last year. I answered that my 20s, while filled with beautiful things like marrying this guy and having our son, was a pretty tough decade with my sickness and losing Aila so I was ready to move on. 30 was a good year. Now onto 31!

_tbt_to_fighting_for_my_life_POPSUGAR shared a bit about what my life looked like before I changed my diet and was fighting for my life with a debilitating autoimmune disease. You can read it HERE.

I'm doing things so different from when I introduced solids to Asher. I bought all of the processes cereals, puffs, and baby food not knowing any better. After a lot of reading and researching, I'm loosely following the recommendations in the The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Child Care which is based on Weston A Price. I don't quite agree with everything in the book, but it's a great resource. Easton's first food was pastured egg yolks (soft boiled), mixed with a little pastured chicken liver that I simmered in bone broth, and I thinned it all with a little breast milk. I made it thicker after the first couple of days once he got the hang of swooshing and swallowing. I used just about 1/4 tsp of liver to 1 egg yolk. They suggest raw liver, frozen for 14 days to kill bacteria, but after my own bout with food poisoning doing that a couple of years ago, I was too worried to take the risk!

We moved on to avocados then carrots next, and I made the mistake of letting him have some of my banana when he pulled my hands to his mouth and now he's obsessed! I don't plan to introduce any grains until after a year, or possibly 16 months when his digestive system is mature enough to handle them. I'll do soaked and/or sprouted grains, and will probably only stick to gluten-free oats and rice.

I figured if Easton is eating it, I may as well too (his is minus the s&p ?) This has become a favorite snack!

A_little_fringe_flare_for_my_birthday_outfit_the_otherA little fringe flare for my birthday outfit the other day. Loving these boots, and that they're under $100.
