This week was full of family time and doing my best to power through my Whole30. It's been less than perfect, but it accomplished what I was hoping it would –I've been craving sweets much much less. Ryan and I went away for a few days to a conference in southern California. It was so amazing getting some one on one time with him but we are so happy to be home and with our boys! Scroll to the end to see some of my Whole30 meals this week that haven't been seen anywhere else yet!
Even my own copy is worn, dirty, and weathered on this page! You can find this recipe in Against all Grain. I make a double batch of minis of these every couple of weeks to keep in the freezer for treats for Asher.
We had a break in work and we were able to go on a lunch day date to a new sushi place that we love!Found some new grass-fed Paleo beef jerky at Whole Foods! Not cheap, but we were road tripping and I didn't have time to make any of my Smoky Beef Jerky. If you're in a pinch, this is a great brand to try out!
I can't believe how big this little guy is getting! He is 5 months today!
I asked Asher to pack his suitcase for a weekend away with grandparents. This was as far as he got… clearly he only packed the necessities 😉
We went road tripping this past weekend and as much as we missed our babies it was so nice to have some alone time with my love!
I missed this little bug while we were gone. I came back with my heart full (and so was my ice chest of pumped milk lol).
This was another rendition of spaghetti sauce over greens that we enjoyed: broccoli and spinach sautéed in ghee with my Shortcut Spaghetti Sauce from Meals Made Simple overtop
Whoever made the saying “there's no use crying over spilt milk” was obviously not a breastfeeding mama!! Am I right?Annnd more meal planning for the weekend! It's fun revisiting old recipes that I haven't made in years! There's tons of recipes in both of my books that are Whole30 compliant with no, or just minor modifications (all of the photos above can be found in Against all Grain). I'll also be putting up a blog post with my meal plans from Meals Made Simple showing you which recipes are Whole30 compliant and if not, how to make them compliant!
And a few Danielle's Digest exclusive photos–We had a lovely breakfast while we were in Santa Barbara! I ordered (as I almost always do) the California Eggs Benedict over some sautéed spinach in place of the english muffin with a side of fruit! If you're out for breakfast, this is almost always a go-to for me as most places are more than willing to give you spinach in place of the muffin and usually there isn't any added flours in the hollandaise! I always suggest double checking and making sure that there isn't any hidden gluten in there.
Will power. I took Asher on a special date to In-n-out, but opted to bring my own salad to stay the course. Those fries look a lot more appetizing 😉
I've needed to eat lots of starches for my Whole30 to not constantly be hungry while breastfeeding. Enter the stuffed sweet potato, yet again! If you missed my post last week I added another recipe to my archives: The Buffalo Chicken Stuffed Sweet Potato. They just keep on coming! Tonight I just needed something quick, after getting home from a trip. I browned ground beef with carrots, cauliflower, spinach, some salt and the taco seasoning from Meals Made Simple. I stirred in some ghee and salt into the roasted sweet potato, and then topped it with the filling. It was a little bit boring so I drizzled some of my herb ranch dressing (Meals Made Simple, page 247) on top and it was awesome!
I was getting so bored of eggs for breakfast, and when I was flipping through my first book, Against all Grain, I stumbled over my recipe for Maple Sage Sausage and Cinnamon Apples (page 32) and remembered how delicious it was and that it was Whole30 compliant if I omitted the maple! I haven't made it in so long and I wanted to make sure it lasted me a while so I made a double batch of the sausages and froze them for easy breakfasts. Like I said, I've been needing more starches because of doing a Whole30 while breastfeeding, so I served it alongside a small hannah sweet potato with a little ghee and sea salt and pepper.
I'm trying my hand at making some Whole30 compliant ketchup because I miss it on my burgers! It's similar to the Whole30 BBQ sauce on my blog but I'm working to get the spices/sweetness/acidity just right. It also has to pass the Asher test! Once I perfect it, it will be up on the blog so keep your eyes peeled! 🙂
Average Joe Paleo
Your will power is a lot stronger than mine for sure, hot salty fries of any kind are my kryptonite and now I want fries. What kind of sweet potato is that?
Danielle
Haha! It’s a hannah sweet potato!

Thanks, I found them at Whole Foods this week and love them. It taste like a cross between a regular white potato and a sweet potato to me. Going to try making fries with them next;)
Danielle
Yum!

Just made your Rosemary Breadsticks from Against All Grain…but they had to be nut free to send to day care. I substituted about 1 1/2- 1 3/4 finely ground sunflower seeds (and topped with olive oil/extra garlic salt) and they were great! Thanks for all you do.
Danielle
That’s awesome! I’m so glad they worked! 🙂
WIN-WIN FOOD
Ooh now I want those chocolate chip cookies <3 no wonder that particular page is so worn out 😀 I would have ripped it out and glued to my fridge.
Danielle
Haha I may just have to do that!
